The community of Nueva Esperanza is 7 ½ miles from the town of San Juan del Río Coco, and share the high areas with San José. It was founded in 1980 with a peasant population. It is a community which has diversified farms with basic grains and coffee associated with bananas and fruit and wood trees. They also raise pigs and poultry. Even though it is a community with a lot of forest, these areas are in private hands. It is a community composed of families from different places and last names, who maintain a distrust of the State and organizations from outside their communities. They appear to be individualistic and hard people molded by the work in the mountains, but they naturally help one another, get along well with one another, according to the neighboring communities. Their coffee is a testimony to this fine relationship between community stability and the heterogeneity of migrant people.
